Generative engine optimization: control how AI describes you.

Many AI answers name brands without linking anyone. What the model says about you comes from everything it has read: your site, profiles, reviews, press, forums. GEO works on all of it.

Definition

GEO earns mentions: being named, described accurately and recommended in AI-generated answers, whether or not a link is shown.

Engines covered

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Copilot, Google AI Overviews

What GEO is

  • One canonical description of your business, repeated consistently across the web
  • Corrections when engines state wrong prices, locations, leaders or services
  • Earning presence on the review sites, directories, lists and publications engines cite for your category
  • Genuine, disclosed participation in communities such as Reddit and industry forums

What it is not

  • Paying for fake reviews or astroturfing forums
  • Self-published “we are #1” claims with no evidence
  • Prompt injection or hidden text aimed at models
  • Something you can switch on in a week

How do LLMs decide which brands to recommend?

Retrieval-based engines pull from sources they rank as relevant and trustworthy, then summarise them. Brands that are described consistently across many credible sources are more likely to be named. Training data also plays a part for answers given without search.

Is GEO the same as AEO?

They overlap. We use AEO for winning citations to your pages and GEO for shaping mentions and descriptions across the wider web. Most programmes need both.

Do Reddit and forums really matter?

Several engines cite Reddit and community sites frequently. Genuine, disclosed answers from your experts help; fake accounts or paid posts break platform rules and can backfire.

Can you fix what ChatGPT says about us?

Not directly; nobody can edit a model. We find the sources the wrong statement comes from, correct or outweigh them, and track whether answers change over the following weeks.
