Claude Commerce Agents
Claude Commerce Agents Explained: Setup Guide | Insyrge
“Claude Commerce” is Anthropic’s open-source Claude Commerce Agents blueprint: a shopping agent and a merchant agent you fork and run yourself. Here is what it does, what it doesn’t, and how Insyrge can help you set it up.
The short answer
“Claude Commerce” usually refers to Claude Commerce Agents, which Anthropic released in early September 2026. It is an Apache-2.0 open-source reference blueprint on GitHub (anthropics/commerce-agents) for building two kinds of agent on Claude: a shopping agent a business embeds in its own app for customers, and a merchant agent its staff use to run the back office.
It is not a marketplace, a checkout or a consumer shopping feature inside the Claude app. Anthropic describes it as an open reference implementation, not a supported product: you fork the code and own what you build.
The shopping agent
- Searches the catalog, compares options and handles multi-item requests
- Builds the cart, then hands it to the merchant’s own checkout to complete
- Answers order, returns and policy questions
- Remembers customer preferences
The merchant agent
- Explains sales performance
- Maintains listings and acts on inventory and order alerts
- Suggests pricing and promotions and drafts campaigns
- Stages every change for a person to approve
How it runs
The same agent definition (prompt, skills, tool contracts, approval gates) runs on the Messages API, the Claude Agent SDK and Claude Managed Agents, and deploys on the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry or Google Cloud Vertex AI. The repository includes four runnable examples (retail, travel, telecom, entertainment) and a Claude Code plugin to scaffold your own. Each deployment connects the agent to its own catalog, cart, order and policy systems.
Press coverage names Shopify, Priceline, Intuit, Klaviyo, Wix, Square and Zomato among companies building on Claude, and Accenture, Mastercard and Visa in the partner network.
What it means for AI visibility
Whether the agent is yours or a third-party assistant, it can only recommend what it can read and trust. Accurate product data, clear policies and consistent descriptions across the web are the same foundations answer engine optimization (AEO) works on.
How Insyrge can help you set it up
Insyrge does not resell or support Anthropic’s code. What we can do:
- Audit your catalog, policy and product pages so agents and AI engines read them correctly
- Add and validate Product, Offer and Organization schema that matches the visible page
- Map which buyer questions the shopping agent should answer, using the prompt-panel method we use for AEO
- Connect AI-sourced enquiries and orders to a lead-source field in your CRM, such as Zoho CRM, so you can measure them

Frequently asked questions
Is Claude Commerce a product I can buy?
No. Anthropic’s commerce offering is Claude Commerce Agents, an open-source (Apache-2.0) reference blueprint. Anthropic says it is not a supported product: you fork the repository and own what you build.
Does Claude take payments or run a checkout?
No. The shopping agent builds the cart and hands checkout to the merchant’s existing checkout or payment provider. Anthropic says Claude is the intelligence layer, not a storefront or checkout.
Where can it run?
On the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry or Google Cloud Vertex AI, using the Messages API, the Claude Agent SDK or Claude Managed Agents.
Will merchant changes go live automatically?
No. In the blueprint, every merchant-agent write, such as a price or listing change, is staged until a person approves it.
How does this relate to AEO?
Agents can only recommend products they can read. Clean catalog data, accurate policies and machine-readable pages help both your own agent and third-party AI assistants describe you correctly.
