Zoho CRM Address Autocomplete: Stop Manual Entry
Add Google-powered address suggestions to Zoho CRM forms to cut typing and keep every address clean and consistent.
Add Google-powered address autocomplete to Zoho CRM forms to cut typing, fix inconsistent addresses and speed up data entry. Try the Insyrge extension.
Typing addresses by hand is one of those small tasks that quietly damages a CRM. One rep writes "Bengaluru", another writes "Bangalore", a third leaves the postcode blank, and six months later territory reports, shipping labels and invoices all disagree. Zoho CRM address autocomplete solves this at the point of entry: the user starts typing, picks the right address from Google's suggestions, and every address field fills in consistently. This guide covers why it matters, the two ways to add it (an extension or a custom build), and a worked example of the custom approach.
Why manual address entry causes more damage than it seems
Address data feeds more processes than most teams realise:
- Territory assignment and lead routing rules that match on city, state or postcode
- Quotes, invoices and shipping documents generated from CRM records
- Tax calculations that depend on state or country
- Reports and dashboards grouped by region
- Duplicate detection, which struggles when the same address is written three ways
Every inconsistent entry weakens all of these. Fixing addresses after the fact is slow, so the cheapest place to get them right is the moment they are entered.
Two ways to add address autocomplete to Zoho CRM
Option 1: Install an extension
The quickest route is an extension from the Zoho Marketplace. Our own Google Address Auto Complete for Zoho CRM extension adds an "Add Google Address" button to Leads, Contacts, Accounts and Deals. Clicking it opens a popup where the user searches for an address, picks the correct suggestion, and the street, city, state or province, postal code and country fields are filled in and saved to the record.
This suits most teams: no code to maintain, quick to roll out, and consistent across modules.
Option 2: Build it yourself with the Google Places API
If you need autocomplete inside a custom form, a portal, or an unusual layout, you can build it with Google's Places API Autocomplete (New) and Place Details (New). This gives full control but means you own the code, the Google Cloud project and the billing.

How Zoho CRM address autocomplete works behind the scenes
Whichever option you choose, the flow is similar:
- As the user types, an Autocomplete request returns up to five place predictions, each with a place ID.
- When the user picks a prediction, a Place Details request fetches the structured address components for that place ID.
- Each component, such as street number, route, locality, administrative area, postal code and country, is mapped to a CRM field.
Google recommends grouping the typing and selection steps into a session using session tokens, which affects how requests are billed. It also recommends restricting results by country when you only serve certain markets, and requesting only the fields you need through a field mask.
Worked example: mapping Google address components to Zoho CRM fields
Zoho CRM's standard address fields have different API names in each module. Here is the mapping we start from.
Google component typeLeads fieldContacts fieldAccounts fieldstreet_number + route (plus subpremise if present)StreetMailing_StreetBilling_Streetlocality (fallback: postal_town or sublocality)CityMailing_CityBilling_Cityadministrative_area_level_1StateMailing_StateBilling_Statepostal_codeZip_CodeMailing_ZipBilling_CodecountryCountryMailing_CountryBilling_Country
Deals have no standard address fields, so add custom fields if you need addresses there. Also test with real addresses from your markets: address structures differ by country, and in India, for example, the area or sublocality often matters as much as the street.
Worked example: a Deluge function that fills a lead's address from a place ID
In a custom build, the browser component handles the typing and passes the chosen place ID to a server-side function. Keeping the Place Details call on the server means the API key is not exposed in the page. The illustrative Deluge function below takes a lead ID, a place ID and a session token, fetches the address components, and updates the lead.
// Arguments: leadId, placeId, sessionToken
apiKey = zoho.crm.getOrgVariable("google_places_api_key");
headerMap = Map();
headerMap.put("X-Goog-Api-Key", apiKey);
headerMap.put("X-Goog-FieldMask", "addressComponents");
resp = invokeurl
[
url: "https://places.googleapis.com/v1/places/" + placeId + "?sessionToken=" + sessionToken
type: GET
headers: headerMap
];
streetNumber = "";
route = "";
update = Map();
for each comp in resp.get("addressComponents")
{
types = comp.get("types");
if(types.contains("street_number")) { streetNumber = comp.get("longText"); }
if(types.contains("route")) { route = comp.get("longText"); }
if(types.contains("locality")) { update.put("City", comp.get("longText")); }
if(types.contains("administrative_area_level_1")) { update.put("State", comp.get("longText")); }
if(types.contains("postal_code")) { update.put("Zip_Code", comp.get("longText")); }
if(types.contains("country")) { update.put("Country", comp.get("longText")); }
}
update.put("Street", (streetNumber + " " + route).trim());
result = zoho.crm.updateRecord("Leads", leadId, update);
info result;
To use the same function for Contacts or Accounts, swap the field names using the mapping table above. Store the API key in an org variable, not in the script.
Securing and controlling costs on the Google side
If you build your own integration, set up the Google Cloud project carefully:
- Restrict the API key to the Places API only, and to the server or website origins that should use it. Google's API security best practices explain the options.
- Use session tokens so a typing session and its selection are grouped together.
- Request only the fields you need with a field mask, as in the example above.
- Wait until the user has typed a few characters before sending autocomplete requests.
- Set budget alerts in Google Cloud so unexpected usage is noticed early.
Check Google Maps Platform pricing for your expected volume before rolling out to a large team.
Rolling it out to your team
- Start with the module where address errors cause the most trouble, usually Accounts or Leads.
- Clean up the worst existing addresses first so reports improve straight away.
- Keep a manual-entry fallback for addresses Google cannot find, such as new developments.
- Show users the button or field once in a short walkthrough; adoption is usually immediate because it saves typing.
Clean addresses also make deduplication far more reliable. Our guide to CRM database hygiene and deduplication covers the matching rules that benefit most. Frequently Asked Questions
Does Zoho CRM have built-in Google address autocomplete?
Address autocomplete is typically added through a Zoho Marketplace extension or a custom integration with the Google Places API. Check the Marketplace for current options; our extension covers Leads, Contacts, Accounts and Deals.
Which modules can use address autocomplete?
With our extension, Leads, Contacts, Accounts and Deals. A custom build can work in any module or form, as long as you map the address components to the right field API names.
Do we need a Google Cloud account?
For a custom build, yes. You need a Google Cloud project with the Places API enabled, billing set up and a restricted API key. Requirements for extensions depend on the extension, so check its listing.
Will it work for addresses outside India?
Google's address data covers addresses worldwide, but structures differ by country. Test with addresses from each market you serve and adjust the field mapping if needed.
Try it in your CRM
The fastest way to stop manual address entry is to install the Google Address Auto Complete for Zoho CRM extension. If you need a custom build inside your own forms or portal, contact our team to discuss it.
